The Aviation Safety Research Act of 1988

    The Aviation Safety Research Act of 1988, is a legislative act that mandated a greater emphasis on long-range research planning and the study of such issues as aging aircraft structures and human factors affect safety (FAA, 2017). FAA engineers and scientists also investigated areas such as human factors, as we covered last module, in aeronautical tasks, improvement of runways, and the effects of corrosion on aircraft structures (FAA, 2017). This act was instrumental in shaping the aviation industry because of it's tremendous influence on safety for all aspects of the industry. The research put forth was important as it not only saves the aircraft and extends their lifetime but also protects all of those who work in the aviation industry with all types of aircraft. 

    As the rapid evolution of aeronautics continued, the safety regulations and laws governing aeronautics also had to evolve. This is when the Aviation Safety Research Act of 1988 came into play to modernize safety as our technology and the aircraft became more modernized themselves (FAA, 2017). The legislation's purpose was to also look into the future of the aviation industry and develop new ways to prolong aircraft life, as well as other aspects of the aviation industry, such as runways and ground equipment.
